On July 17, 2025, Welborn attorney Kathleen Pritchard secured a hard-fought win before the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission on behalf of two ranching clients seeking compensation for calves killed by wolves.
Despite initial denials by CPW staff—based on a narrow reading of agency regulations—Kathleen successfully argued that the claims deserved full compensation under the voter-approved mandate in Proposition 114. After extensive deliberation, the Commission voted 6–5 to settle both claims in full.
The case has drawn attention across Colorado, and Kathleen was recently interviewed by several media outlets. You can watch one of the segments here.
Thanks to Jim Sanderson, Julie Rosen, and Brian Tooley for their strategic insights; to Amelia Marsh for fast and thorough legal drafting; and to Marlene Diamond for key behind-the-scenes support. While broader questions around CPW’s regulatory interpretation remain, this was an important win for our clients—and a reminder of the power of strong advocacy.
